“This is my first metal gig since 2020” I remarked to my friend as I entered Chalk in Brighton. Having attended a few other events this year, this one marked my return to the metal events scene and my first gig review since rejoining Moshville a few weeks. After getting all set-up and sorted, I settled into an evening of what promised to be a lot of fun.

Opening proceedings, Annisokay wasted no time in letting the sold-out venue know exactly what they were about. The sound was a little bass heavy for my liking, but that could have been due to our positioning at the time. Being unfamiliar with the band, it took me a few songs before I began to appreciate them. The eager crowd however were engaged right form the first notes and we witnessed the first of what would be multiple circle pits that evening.
The choice to play a Slipknot cover was an odd one I must admit. Having been a band since 2007 and with 5 albums to their name, personally I would have preferred more original material. Given they did change harsh vocalist recently however, it is possible that there wasn’t as extensive a collection to draw from. Despite this, the band delivered a very enjoyable set and arguably were an excellent fit for this tour.
After a short changeover, it was time for the main event of the evening. Having exploded in popularity over the past 24 months, the Casdrop sextet of Electric Callboy came on stage to “Pump It” and the crowd, quite literally, sprung into life. Crowdsurfers, circle pits, walls of death, questionably tuneful singing of the lyrics back, you name it, it was there. Even glitter which was fired from giant cannons on stage.
Vocalist Nico was, however, noticeably having some issues nailing some of his higher melodies in a few songs. I suspect this was due to him having to use over-ear monitors instead of his usual in-ears. This did not mar the concert in the slightest however, and in some way made it a bit more special. Comprising their set of tracks primarily taken from their latest release Tekkno and fan favourites such as “The Scene”, Electric Callboy delivered what can only be classed as outstanding. You know that a concert was good if even 4 days later you still can’t quite process how exciting it was…
