Gig Review: Bullet For My Valentine / Defects – PRYZM, London (24th May 2022)

Defects (c) Lawrence Potter

This is my first time seeing Bullet For My Valentine since 2008! Being as they are one of the groups that’s got me heavily into metal back in the day I knew this was going to be a special evening. I must admit I haven’t really heard too much of Bullet’s material past the Fever album so I was excited to hear some new material as well as the classics. It has to be said this is a much smaller venue to where I’m used to seeing these guys, but having that intimate atmosphere can create a very unique and memorable experience.

First up we have Defects. This up and coming metal band have been certainly turning some heads on the circuit. Sharing the stage with such acts as Iron Maiden, Bring Me The Horizon, Disturbed and many more, they are definitely getting great exposure! Bringing a highly energetic showcase and getting up and personal with the fans, these guys certainly know how to start an evening off in the right fashion. I got the privilege of seeing them a couple of months back with In Flames and similar tonight they put on one hell of a performance!

Next to the stage we have Welsh Metal giants, Bullet For My Valentine. Straight out of the gate they unleash on us their latest single, “Omen”. The sold-out crowd went absolutely crazy. With an entourage of stage divers making there way to the front, I think it’s safe to say this one went down nicely!

It’s great to see after all this time, Bullet still have a loyal fan base from the Poison and Scream, Aim, Fire days. This show certainly felt like a “best-of” as the Welsh metallers brought out a well curated array of hits from their back catalogue such as “4 Words (To Choke Upon)”, “All These Things I Hate”, “Scream, Aim, Fire” and ending the night with two of their biggest tracks, “Tears Don’t Fall” and “Waking the Demon” to send myself and the rest of the crowd home happy and certainly, looking forward to the next time!

With new dates recently announced for Feb/March 2023, jump on those tickets now before the gigs sell out. Live music is back and, with the energy on offer tonight, it’s making up for lost time.
