Livestream Review: Acolyte – Live at Chapel Off Chapel

Melbourne’s Acolyte are a very recent discovery for me after stumbling across their latest album Entropy which came out in May. I was really pleased to learn that they would be doing a hometown performance at the prestigious Chapel off Chapel fresh on the back of the album’s release.

I Immediately love this as it’s such a fantastic setting which fits the aesthetic of the band perfectly – Acolyte are a band where for me personally for me anyway display elements of opeth, ghost, black sabbath all the while firmly keeping their own identity.

Everything, and I mean everything, looked like it had been planned meticulously: the staging, lighting, and cinematography were just wonderful.

The performance itself was about 45 minutes and was high energy from start to finish. All the tracks played were from the most recent offering which included my highlight track from it, “Acceptance”, as well as the title track from the album.

Setlist

  1. Resentment
  2. Idiosyncrasy
  3. Clarity
  4. Acceptance
  5. Entropy

One unexpected added bonus was being to have the ability to stream to the TV which made the overall experience more immersive.

The performance can still be purchased and viewed until August 31st.

Other streams and performances are now being released to own physically and I truly hope that this is eventually included. Easily my favourite event of the year thus far.

Entropy is out now
