Although restrictions are easing, festivals around the globe are still postponing until next year. Gigs are starting to happen again, but now the numbers are small so the live stream once again comes to the rescue. You may feel that is an oversaturated market now, but this is no everyday stream as Emperor will celebrate 30 years with a night that promises a setlist featuring tracks from the entire catalogue and special guest appearances from original bass player Mortiis, and ex-drummer Faust.
Filmed at Norway’s Notodden Theatre – the impact immediate, you can tell that the production is as meticulous as it rightly deserves to be for the purveyors of Norwegian black metal.

There was no long intro, just straight into the furious charging that is synonymous with Emperor as a whole and which didn’t let up for the entire first part of the set.
The intermission consisted of a black and white video package including “Ave Satani” from Jerry Goldsmith’s The Omen which withered into red lighting… and a sight I personally was looking forward to – Mortiis in full gear and makeup and Faust once again behind the drum kit. They may have only played two tracks but it was a real highlight.
I also too enjoyed the video backdrops which not only complemented some of the older tracks but added to the overall aura of the show. A nice final touch was to see members past & present standing together united in blasphemy.
