Catching four of the bands from the launch yesterday was a great return to the local live scene for 2019 for me. Each band played a 30 minute set to an expectant mass of Manc Metalheads. Even though this was not the competition it was as if every band laid down a gauntlet for the next to take up the challenge, the quality was that good. 2019 is looking great for the Manchester metal scene.
Opening up the event were Def Goldblum, four guys on a mission to save world with their own brand of rap metal. They made a great start by getting the Manchester crowd warmed up. Help them save the world and check them out, their music is ace.
No strangers to M2TM, former winners This is Turin from Cheshire played another intense nerve chilling technical set. Well worth a look.
This was Impavidus‘ last live show for a while as they are focusing on studio work. In the meantime they were led brilliantly by the charismatic Michelle taking us on a roller coaster ride of vocals incorporating the energetic groove metal that the band is renowned for. I’m looking forward to new material from the pride of Manchester metal.
Embarrassingly this was my first encounter with Dead Retinas. It’s fair to say they don’t take themselves seriously but their tunes are indeed serious, sort of. I’m glad to find another Manchester band to make me chuffed to be a Manc.
