Somehow, despite living in London for most of my life, I had managed so far not to visit legendary Camden rock bar The Devonshire Arms, formally known as The Hobgoblin. On Friday night I got my chance as I headed to The Dev for an evening of metal!
Due to various personal commitments, it transpired that the only band who would take to the stage at The Dev would be five-piece theatrical death metal band Gehtika from Coventry, and they more than owned it, proving to the Camden crowd that there was no need for a warm-up act!
Dressed in their trademark gentlemanly-attire with faces adorned with black face-paint, Gehtika graced the tiny stage at 9.30pm, by which time the bar was packed with rock/metal fans, who seemed to really enjoy the performance.
The first time I saw Gehtika live was back in April when they headlined the final day of Mosh Against Cancer Coventry, and it was great to see them again – this time in my home town! Their stage presence is brilliant and their performances are always entertaining as well as being technically spot-on. Gehtika opened their set with tracks from their latest EP The Great Reclamation, then treated the crowd to a medley of covers, before going on to perform numbers from their 2015 album A Monster In Mourning.
They are definitely a band worth seeing live if they are playing at a venue near you! A Kickstarter campaign is still ongoing for The Great Reclamation.
