[avatar user=”Katie” size=”50″ align=”left” /]She may not quite fit into the usual rock / metal genre we cover here at The Moshville Times, but Canadian electro-rock artist LIGHTS is a worthy exception to the rule; she was a guest vocalist on Bring Me The Horizon’s tracks “Crucify Me” and “Don’t Go”, and is married to metalcore band Blessthefall’s frontman Beau Bokan (with whom she has a 2-year old daughter called Rocket). She also used to play guitar in a metal band named Shovel Face in high school!
Whilst massive in her native Canada, this UK tour included just five dates around the UK; Glasgow, Manchester, Brighton plus two shows in London. She always puts on a brilliant show; dancing around every inch of the stage and engaging with as many members of the crowd as possible. Opening with “From All Sides” she mostly played tracks from her latest album Little Machines but also treated us to some older material including “Toes” and “Banner”.
As well as vocals she also plays keys plus both electric and acoustic guitar, although I personally miss the days of her keytar…an instrument that Alestorm are currently keeping alive!
LIGHTS (yes, that is her real name – she changed it by deed poll) puts an incredible amount of energy into her live shows and I would recommend going to check her out next time she is over here. Prior to this UK tour she was supporting Paramore on the Parahoy cruise/tour.
Support was due to come from four-piece British band Pixel Fix, but due to illness they were replaced for these two London dates by Swedish singer Cronicle (not to be confused with Danish metal band Chronicle!). These were only her third and fourth live shows ever and she did a great job of warming up the crowd.
If electro-rock isn’t really your thing then check out LIGHTS’ acoustic albums Acoustic EP (2010) and Siberia Acoustic (2013), plus she has recently announced the release of Midnight Machines, which is the acoustic version of her latest album Little Machines. The subject matter of many of the tracks from Little Machines relates to the struggle of life away from her husband, whose band often has a conflicting tour schedule to hers.
