Seether return with their renowned unapologetic aggressive sound and raw emotion in the form of *The Surface Seems So Far*.
They say the more things change, the more they stay the same. From the opening riff of the track “Judas Mind,” there is a nostalgic familiarity that becomes immediately apparent as it progresses into “Illusion.” One thing is for certain: this is easily one of the band’s most technically brilliant compositions that the South African natives have ever created.
“Beneath the Veil” features some wonderfully placed melodic soundscapes that still manage to retain a certain level of grit. This is complemented by the frankly anthemic “Semblance of Me.”
The album finds its groove on “Walls Come Down,” which boasts an enriching maturity, whereas “Try to Heal” is littered with well-placed angst that lingers through “Paint the World.”

Moving into the highlight, “Same Mistakes,” there is a real opportunity for the listener to become engulfed in the narrative delivery. This is once again complemented well by “Lost All Control.”
The spiralling nature of “Dead on the Vine” contains the very elements and formula that led me to become a fan many years ago, which is only fortified by the album’s final offering: the soothing melancholy of “Regret.”
Seether haven’t missed in their entire career and The Surface Seems So Far only adds to their strong discography
