Swedish industrial cult act Deathstars return with their new album Everything Destroys You.
This album already has the aura of a comeback album of sorts and it has been eight long years since their last release. From the immediate start of “This Is” dedicated fans should rejoice as some of the long soundscapes are back.
“Midnight Party” very much continues the electro industrial delight featuring so many throwbacks to past releases. If it ain’t broke… It’s an absolute highlight track and oh, how I have missed Whiplasher’s vocals.
Eurovision-worthy “Anti All” fires through next. After many rescheduled dates and cancelations the band are touring towards to the end of the year. With one of the dates firmly in my sights I am very much looking forward to the pyrotechnics for this one.
The album’s title track “Everything Destroys You” has a slower side, but is still layered with electronica and has a catchy chorus, as does “Between Volumes and Voids”. It differs, though, with the inclusion of a piano section and dual vocals.

Now if I was asked to pick one track that encompasses everything that Deathstars are known for then I think it would be “An Atomic Prayer”. If you’re not convinced maybe I should mention it has a very Terminator 2 intro to it.
Again, “Blood For Miles” is a complete visit to Nostalgia City and is followed up by “The Churches of Oil” which, dare I say, has some similar sounds to a little known band by the name of Ghost.
As the album winds down to the final few tracks, “The Infrahuman Masterpiece” is almost the band’s way of saying that even after 20 years they still have a lot left in the tank. Lastly, “Angel of Fortune and as Crime” closes this chapter. It has been wonderful listening to the band rediscover their dark ways once more.
A deadly combination of amplified anguish and adrenaline.
