Originally self-released, Scotland’s Coffin Mulch now to spread their death metal sound much further afield with their latest offering: Septic Funeral.
You know those releases that you stumble on, and are instantly hooked with? For me this is one of them. I’m not even going to play down how excited I was by just the artwork alone! Even better, this will be getting a physical release.
Festering decay from the very outset, opener and title track “Septic Funeral” is slow, purposeful lamenting at every available opportunity. We then see a big tempo change for “Black Liquefaction” with shades of Bolt Thrower which then spew into the unrelenting “Live Again”.
The swirling winds, menacing drums, and doom-laden tones throughout the entirety of “Onwards To Death” make this my highlight track of the album. Also, Alastair’s vocals on this are easily my favourite. This then leads in the equally tormenting but blink-and-you-miss-it “Carnivorous Subjugation” as it’s less than a minute long.

Lastly, we are treated to the track “Coffin Mulch” which was originally on the 2019 demo, and although it is a good track I would’ve liked to have had “Apocalypse Of Gore” reanimated and thrust into the listener’s ear canals instead.
Septic Funeral is quite simply joyously grotesque.
Septic Funeral will be released on February 26th, 2021
