Album Review: Foetal Juice – Gluttony

Ramsbottom’s death metal bastards are back with second album Gluttony, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Chris Fielding at Foel Studios.

The grotesque artwork for this album by Roberto Toderico has been perfectly matched the repellent tone of the album. For instance opener “Take Your Face For A Shit” blends death and grind together for a two-and-half-minute rabid onslaught which shows no sign of stopping for “Septic Mollusc” and highlight track of the album “Manifestation of Falsity” (which even has some black metal influence attached to it).

Straight up death metal tracks “Metamorphosis” and “Venomous Domination” send you hurtling into “Worthless Delusion” which itself leaves you at the halfway point being taken aback by the sheer power of the album so far.

The band themselves comment on Gluttony:

It’s a lot faster, heavier and much more aggressive, both musically and lyrically, than anything we have previously written.

Although this album is extremely brutal I did find myself at the midpoint of “Trepidation” almost singing along as if I was at a show, and if I had hair I would absolutely windmill to “Nether Pandemonium” because I can’t stop thinking about that riff and love the bass sound throughout.

The sheer blistering intensity of “Antagonistic Bastard” is complimented so well with Derek Carley’s vocals, and is followed by “Carnage”, title track “Gluttony” and rampaging closer “Spirit Leech”.

The songwriting on this album may be a further example of the band’s creative lunacy but Foetal Juice certainly know how to piece together an album that both deserves and rightfully demands your attention from start to finish.

The punishment for gluttony is to be forced fed rats, snakes and toads. Foetal Juice make you swallow something far more repulsive.

Gluttony will be released June 12th via Gore House Productions.
