What happens when two huge death metal juggernauts collide? You end with twisted horror – the new split featuring five brand new tracks from both Exhumed and Gruesome.
The split starts off with Exhumed for the first three tracks. Opener “Rot Your Brain” does exactly as the title suggests – it goes for the mass of neurons at the top of your spinal column, latches on and doesn’t let go.
“Buried to Die” follows and is two and half minutes of all-you-can eat blast beats and solos. Finally for Exhumed is “Dead, Deader, Deadest” and I’ll be honest I was thinking of reducing my caffeine intake shortly and now I think I’ve found a suitable replacement. The opening of this track blasted at me at the start of the day.
Next up we get the Schuldiner-spawned side of Matt Harvey’s vocal range with the first track from Gruesome, “A Mind Decayed”. The slower mid-part and drum patterns make this the track of the split. Lastly, “Led into the Dark” is superbly guttural with screams from the deepest recesses of hell itself.
For me having Harvey pulling double duty on a release is only ever going to be a good thing. Twisted Horror is a gory blood-soaked slab of high-speed brutality that punishes over and over.
Twisted Horror will be released June 5th via Relapse Records
