Album Review: Lady Beast – The Vulture’s Amulet

Pittsburgh’s Lady Beast once again fly the flag for traditional heavy metal with latest release The Vultures Amulet.

The album’s opener “Metal Machine” makes you want to rummage for that forgotten bullet belt as soon you hear Levine’s powerful vocals. “Runes of Rust” is a classic lesson of thunderous drums and amazing guitar riffs, and the bass really fires through on “The Gift” which is undoubtedly my favourite track of the album.

You almost get a feeling of impending doom with “Sacrifice to the Unseen”. The amps then seems to be turned up to 12 with “Betrayer”. The longest track on the album, “The Champion”, is this album’s “Stranger in a Strange Land”. “Transcend the Blade” is an all-out assault, guitars and fists aloft. Title track “The Vulture’s Amulet” is the singalong, air guitar with headphones track that every good NWOBHM needs to have then, to finish, “Vow of the Valkyrie”.

This album has everything – throwback album art, great delivery and non-stop headbanging guaranteed. In true retro style I’ve ordered this on cassette!
