Review: Lethal Injektion – Judgement Night

Lethal Injektion is the newest rap/metal band out of Tucson, Arizona formed by Jacob Ryan, a successful independent rap artist (who goes by the name of The Raskal) and Jonathan Russell, vocalist of Stand With Fists. The two joined forces to create a concept that’s not been seen in Tucson before.

They needed a band to make their high energy, aggressive metal tones and rhythm work. Jonathan spoke to guitarists Lawrence McIntyre and Jesse Espich, drummer James Ringstrom, and bassist Luis Rodriguez. In January of 2016, the band recorded their first studio EP Sex Is Power, which appeared at #8 on iTunes. Now it’s time for their second full length album Judgement Night under the home umbrella RuffLife Recordz, and it came out September 15, 2017.

Judgement Night is full on aggressive metal, guitar riffs of a powerful nature and a hip-hop flow by Jacob Ryan. The 16-track album explodes as an offering to the nu-metal scene.  It opens with “Blinding Light”, an introduction with a comparison to Linkin Park, which to be honest many bands will be associated with and Lethal Injektion have a lot of their traits.

Being a rap/metal album and called Judgement Night gives me a euphoric recall. Actor Emilio Estevez with Cuba Gooding Jnr, Dennis Leary, Everlast, Stephen Dorrf and Jeremy Piven starred in a movie called Judgement Night in 1993. The movie’s soundtrack is a rap/metal collaboration from many of the bands of the day. One that caught my attention and floated this mind of mine to that era, is title track and number ten in the playlist, “Judgement Night”. It has elements of the Biohazard/Onyx collaboration purely because Lethal Injektion yell “Judgement Night!” between every burst of energy and it brought nice reminders of the 1993 tune.

Lethal Injektion call upon other musicians to share the dream of this record. Jahred of (hed)p.e. appears on “The Awakening” and I think this is one helluva track. Love it. A stand out for me on this record. The guitars burst through the heavy drumming and vocals are eclectic, beautiful rap metal aggression… ”It’s all right here, mother****ers

Judgement Night is aggressive with power-fuelled vocals and strong riffs to explode the speakers.  This is a band who need to be seen live.
