Review: Guttural Corpora Cavernosa – You Should Have Died When I Killed You

Guttural Corpora Cavernosa - You Should Have Died When I Killed YouLet me just start by saying, maybe, that the word love is not supposed to go with Guttural Corpora Cavernosa, (or slam death metal in general). However after listening to the band’s new album I think I have fallen in love with the genre all over again. You Should Have Died When I Killed You is just filled with all things slam, everything from the heaviness and speed, and even has breakdowns present. Especially in the second track “See you in Disneyland” complete with heavy machine gun drums, heavier wailing guitars and heavier-still guttural growls which just define what slam death metal is and is supposed to be about.

You want another reason for why this album is that good? Well that is not a problem – on the topic of tempo changes, the album is filled with them just like on third track “Remorse For What”. Where slower and heavier battery mixes and changes into a faster assault on the senses. Even the vocals change tempo following the battery accordingly, giving the album more depth and making it sound more brutal.

Going back to the vocals on this album, they are perfect and stand up to what slam death metal should be: they are heavy, loud, filled with guttural tones and a few pig screams in there too. With a similar sound to that of Vulvectomy, Guttural Corpora Cavernosa capture the true essence of slam death metal flawlessly.

You Should Have Died When I Killed You is a perfect album for any fan of the slam death metal genre – an album that is filled with everything slam in a powerful and energetic way, a brilliant piece of art that you can turn up, mosh and headbang to and enjoy for what it is.
