Belting out of Manchester with the attitude of a City fan who’s been told that all of their points have been given to United because “hey, it’s all the same place” come Lost Atlanta.
Playing post-hardcore with all the associated screeches, grunt and twanging bass guitar Lost Atlanta pummel the listener with five choice tracks. Two have already been released as videos (the title track most recently and “Into the Grey” at the tail end of last year) and you can check “Alive” out below.
The aforementioned “Into the Grey” features Tim Henson of Polyphia and “Distractions” has Charlie Holmes guesting. The latter is probably my highlight of this collection with a quick-fire in-your-face intro that rapidly settles down into something somewhat more melodic but no less angst-ridden. The twin vocal styles really work well on this song.
“Losing Sight” is another pick, with a very grand opening and plenty of twiddly guitars throughout.
There are many, many bands flooding the post-hardcore market at the moment. Lost Atlanta have something that many lack – a knack for music rather than just belting out their anger and hoping for the best. There are some genuinely catchy melodies in these songs which may appeal to some of you who’d normally focus on the likes of progressive metal.
Alive is released on 9th October.
