Review: Tigerwine – Lull

A young band with a big sound, Tigerwine will release Lull, a 5-track EP, on July 17th. It’s a nice mixture of heavy beats with melodic vocals. Toe-tapping rhythm meets head-nodding heaviness alongside strident guitars and pre-choruses that could set a crowd pogo-ing.

They’ve pulled in elements of grunge, emo and hardcore to create an interesting sound which is very “listen-to-able”. The heavy parts really ram into your head where the lighter segments are enough to sooth. Given there are only three of them in the band, they’ve done incredibly well to create multiple layers which work so well together. Credit must also go to the producers for taking all this music and wrapping it into such a nice package.

With only five tracks, it’s genuinely too short. I could listen to a full album of this. Opener “Crucial Taunt” is already available online so do have a listen below. It’s not the best of the tracks, though. I’d probably reserve that for “Twig” or “Sharp Elbows”. The latter is the final track – it builds and builds towards the end and then just leaves you hanging… waiting for the next song. Frustrating but also teasing.

And until the next release from Tigerwine, the only solution is to put Lull back on again and listen through from the beginning…
