Review: Graveyard Rockstars – Doomsday

Doomsday cover online

[avatar user=”Mosh” size=”50″ align=”left” /]A quick review, this one, as I’m trying to get through a pile of outdated stuff. Don’t think for a minute that the small word count in any way implies that Doomsday doesn’t deserve your time, though…

Hailing from Sydney, Graveyard Rockstars follow the Wednesday 13 kind of ethos sporting stage make-up and playing a nicely schlock horror brand of rock/metal. Goth rock tinged with industrial, they’ve opened for the likes of Sepultura and the Misfits in recent months, and Doomsday is their debut release. It actually came out at the start of December, so if the following appeals then you can already grab a copy.

The album was recorded at various studios around the city, and put together in one go to ensure everything balanced out. There are some catchy numbers and once in a while the vocals brought back memories of the late, great Peter Steele. I’m not comparing the band directly to the great Type O, but the goth edge is definitely present.

Pick of the tracks: “Dusk Till Dawn” and “Doomsday Anthem”.

Keep your eyes out should they escape their Antipodean boundaries and head your way! The best place to check out their material (though not this album) is the Reverbnation link below.
