Review: Deserted Fear – Kingdom of Worms

Deserted Fear - Kingdom of WormsFollowing on from 2012’s debut My Empire, Germany’s Deserted Fear will release Kingdom of Worms on October 24th (CD / download) with a vinyl release due on November 21st. Over a month to go, but trust me – it’ll be worth the wait.

This is as heavy an album as you’ll hear being labelled as death metal with crushing low-keyed riffage and thudding drums throughout each track. Definitely not just the kind of thing you put on in the background, Kingdom of Worms is very much an album worth listening to.

Personally, I would say there’s a pretty thrashy sound to it as well and it’ll appeal to those of you who like the older Sepultura material, that kind of thing. It’s not quite that fast, but it has that feel to it. Give “Mortal Reign” below a listen and see what I mean.

I’d normally name a stand-out track or two but I honestly can’t this time around. Each one is strong in its own right and whole album is worth listening to – there’s no filler. Frenetic, pounding, evil yet with a hint of the hauntingly orchestral in the arrangement. Great stuff.
