Another one that slipped through the cracks recently, Insense’s new album came out at the end of May. That’s no reason to ignore it, though, as it’s a good listen. Insense themselves are a Norwegian quartet with a 15-year history and De:Evolution is their fifth album.
Citing influences as diverse as Machine Head and The Dillinger Escape Plan, Insense have taken the drive of the former and an edge of tech from the latter.
I am very much not a fan of technical metal. I find it too disjointed and arrhythmic. However, by tempering it with a more classic influence, Insense have come up with something in De:Evolution which is far easier to listen to – “tech lite” I suppose you could call it.
Mind, the sound is anything but light. This is a heavy, angry album that pounds incessantly from beginning to end. Worth a listen.
