There’s been a lot of cool new videos from lots of killer bands released recently so let’s get stuck into our picks for this Video Roundup!
Evilizers
The Italian heavy metal quintet put out a lyric video for “Holy Shit”, taken from their sophomore LP Solar Quake, out now via Punishment 18 Records. The song brings a good dose of thrashing riffs with some catchy melodies and great vocals. The lyric video is simple with some cool graphics and flame effects that goes nicely with the music.
The Hirsch Effekt
This is the title track from the German experimental/progressive trio’s latest EP, out now via SPV. “Gregær” balances some busy, yet hooky riffing with some nice clean moments and dual vocals, blending harmonies as well as clean and shouted styles. The strings and background vocals also add awesome textures, overall making for an interesting yet quite accessible track.

Mephisto
It’s always fun when a band wears their nerdy side on their sleeve. Black metal is no stranger to Tolkien’s Middle Earth and the Cuban’s give their take in “The Mighty Ring”, taken from their second LP Pentafixion (out now via Wormholedeath). This epic song goes through lots of twists bringing shifting tempos, spoken and clean vocals, and synth/symphonic moments that wouldn’t sound out of place in an RPG video game. These elements are mixed well with the straight up black metal, making for an awesome audio retelling of the high fantasy classic. The video is a simple lyric video but it comes with some nice touches in the form of the introduction by vocalist Osney Cardoso Riaño and the lyrics being featured in both English and Spanish.
Rawtism
With the nostalgia for fun thrash gigs still in mind before lockdown eases, the Australian newcomers satisfy with this live clip for their raging single “Go Rawtistic” ahead of the June 12th release of their debut EP Raw And Off Its Head. The song is some aggressive, high velocity thrashing with a deathly edge giving lots of classic vibes. The riffing is catchy and certain to get heads banging and bodies flying when live shows return.

Something a little different comes in this instrumental from the progressive metallers. “The Unyielding Grip of Each Passing Day” showcases the band’s technical flair with its heavy neoclassical approach that is both shredding and hooky. The more downtempo middle brings some more sparse harmonised guitar lines allowing the bass some time to shine before the mood shifts again, featuring some dark guitar arpeggios and a final dose of shred in the outro. This is the seventh video from the band’s third album, Curse of Autumn, out now via Century Media Records.
Greenleaf
The final pick for this Video Roundup comes from the stoner rocker’s third album, Echoes From a Mass, which came out yesterday via Napalm Records. The third single from the album, “March on Higher Grounds”, brings some infectious riffs with it’s main arpeggiated line and bluesy moments. The vocals have a softness which is quite chill and complements the lightly fuzzy guitar tone. A great catchy rock song overall.
