You can’t be what you can’t see.
The BBC reported recently that only 13% of UK festival headliners in 2022 are female. From a YouGov survey, out of 200 headline acts looked at, they found:
- 26 were an all-female band or solo artist.
- 149 were either an all-male band or solo artist.
- 24 had a mixed line-up of male and female performers.
- One artist identified as non-binary.
This is before even considering the intersections of ethnicity, sexuality and class.
Representation matters.
Loud Women (and us here at Moshville Times) believe it’s crucially important that the next generation of musical artists sees themselves thoroughly represented on stage (and turned up LOUD). That’s why Loud Women Fest exists.
