SpringFest – hitting Dundee in February!

SpringFest is an all day metal event taking place at Church Dundee on the 14th February which celebrates the most fresh and cutting edge bands from the Scottish heavy metal and hardcore punk circuit and beyond. Here’s all the skinny from – and a bit about – the organisers Pink Emo Promotions…

Following a successful debut event in 2019 which featured stellar performances from Lotus Eater, Values, The Weight of Atlas and many others, we are proud to return with a spectacular 2020 lineup featuring From Sorrow to Serenity, The Weight of Atlas on their second appearance, Dancing With Dakota, Bearers, Catalysis, Bitterwood and Immortal Omen with more bands to be announced.

About Pink Emo Promotions

Pink Emo Promotions was created when its founders were tasked with preparing a live event in their first year of studying Music Business Studies at Perth College UHI. Not content with the idea of a simple three band bill, we developed the idea of making it a full all-day event at Church Dundee with nine bands. The lineup emphasised bands from North and Central Scotland who weren’t getting as many opportunities to perform as their contemporaries in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Our real lightning in a bottle moment was booking Glasgow five piece Lotus Eater as headliners for the event towards the end of 2018. At the time, they were well known within the Scottish scene. However in the months between the booking and the first SpringFest, the group suddenly skyrocketed as they began performing with established rock and metal bands such as Neck Deep, Blood Youth and The Last Ten Seconds of Life. As a result, their headliner position at SpringFest attracted much more interest in the event. Since then, the band have become even bigger, having even collaborated with Bring Me the Horizon on their latestEP. Am I saying we made that happen? Of course not, but it’s very exciting to think we were one small step in their journey towards such amazing heights.

Since SpringFest, we have organised a number of other shows, including two headline events for Dundee metalcore five-piece Grievance, also at Church as well as Ivory Blacks in Glasgow. We have also organised Dundee headline shows for Irish hardcore band Bailer and London based tech metal group Harbinger. As these shows have continued, our reputation has grown and we have developed a following of regular gig attendees who we consider part of the Pink Emo extended family. Benfore SpringFest, we will be kicking off 2020 with three headline shows for Liverpool post-hardcore quartet From Inside with Values and Grievance supporting, which will involve shows at Ivory Blacks, Church and TheTooth and Claw in Inverness.

Bringing SpringFest Back

We’re so excited to bring SpringFest back for a second year. And we’re even more excited about this year’s lineup. We have been aiming to work with From Sorrow to Serenity for a while as they’ve always been heavyweights on Scotland’s metal scene and haven’t played in Dundee for some time. In 2019, they released their sophomore album Reclaim via Long branch Records and have toured with bands such as Betraying the Martyrs, Heart of a Coward and Jinjer. Their songwriting is the perfect blend of unpredictable and chaotic technicality which really ignites a sense of adrenaline in listeners, as well as epically structured choruses and catchy hooks. They’d be impossible to ever get fed up with.

After The Weight of Atlas’ 2019 set, we knew we had to bring them back a second time round. They’re legends in Dundee and when they play tracks like “The Art of Letting Go”, there was this real sense of shared emotion between the band and the audience in the room. They’ve played a number of European shows since Springfest, so we believe Dundee are ready for Round Two.

Also performing are Glasgow metalcore five pieces Dancing With Dakota and Bearers, Dundee thrash/groove metal titans Catalysis and hard rock heroes Immortal Omen and Aberdeen hardcore quartet Bitterwood.

SpringFest 2020 will take place on 14th February at Church, Dundee.

Doors open at 3pm. Tickets are £10 per person and will be available at Pink Emo’s Big Cartel Page
