I’m tieing this one in with news of their upcoming UK tour. Conan, who let’s face it must be named after Robert E. Howard‘s classic Cimmerian (or, if you’re a sad git who doesn’t read books, then two of Arnie’s early films), come from an equally chilly and remorseless place: Liverpool.
They lay claim to a sound as heavy as interplanetary thunder, a charge I dispute given that thunder is the result of a sudden heating and cooling of air around lightning strikes; whereas interplanetary regions are pretty much close to a near-vacuum and thus silent. However, it’s a nice use of hyperbole and artistic license so I’ll let it slide. This time.
Originally a two-piece, they engulfed one extra member (after chewing a few other up and spitting them out) to evolve as a more stable tripod – Jon, Phil and Paul on guitars/vox, bass/vox and skins respectively. This journey from 2006 to present has seen them chuck out a couple of demos and a full album. Their sophomore release, Blood Eagle, is due out in early March 2014.
So are they really as heavy as a heavy thing in a place with no oxygen, but its own portable supply of air? Give ’em a listen and find out.
Oh, and those tour dates for March 2014 are as follows:
- 14th NOTTINGHAM – Stuck On A Name
- 15th BOURNEMOUTH – The Anvil
- 16th BIRMINGHAM – The Asylum 2
