The death metal band Mortifer Rage from Minas Gerais, Brazil, composed of Carlos Pira (vocals and bass), Robert Aender (guitar), R. Amon (guitar and backing vocals), and Angelo Petterson (drums), is releasing their fourth album, Plagues Requiem, through Demoncratic Records in partnership with and distributed by Misanthropic Records. With cover art and design by Alcides Burn, the material was produced by André Damien (Paradise in Flames) at Maçonaria do Áudio studio in Nova Lima (MG). The album features special contributions from Guilherme Alvarenga, who recorded keyboards for “Walls of Insanity” and “Obscure Chains,” and Caio Torres, who contributed to the guitar solos arrangements for “Order of Chaos” and “Hidden Poison.”
Although not a concept album, Plagues Requiem addresses in the lyrics of “The Holocaust of Madness” and in the booklet’s illustration what became known as the Brazilian Holocaust, which caused the deaths of 60,000 people at Colônia Hospital in Barbacena (MG), the largest psychiatric hospital of the time. “This forged concept of madness resulted in the suffering and pain of many people through practices of torture, shock treatment, lobotomy, sale of corpses, and social discrimination against single mothers, homosexuals, among others. Today, this sad reality is exposed in the Museum of Madness in Barbacena,” describes guitarist Robert Aender. “The album Plagues Requiem stands as an opposition and a legacy of hatred against the lethargy of a distorted and sick society, the forms of human manipulation, and hypocrisy,” he adds.

According to vocalist and bassist Carlos Pira, the track “Awareness” depicts the weakened perception of a disfigured society breathing under the guillotine of domination. “Domination through the promotion of existing chaos and the chaos that is created, then ‘proselytism’ is strengthened, and thus the need for the dismantling of old orders.”
Formed in 1999 in the city of Santa Luzia (MG), Mortifer Rage debuted in 2000 with the EP Hangmen’s Hate followed by Legacy of Obsessions (2002). Their discography also includes the EPs Deformity (2004) and Field of Flagellation (2013), the albums Murderous Ritual (2008) and Fall of Gods (2017), in addition to having participated in the compilations Extreme Underground (2005) and Killing All The Posers – Volume 2 (2005).
