When I Die: Get to know the Brazilian band that brings back the essence of 80s goth

Created in São Paulo, When I Die resoundingly rescues all the sound of the classic gothic style of bands from the late 70s and early 80s, but also forms a firm bridge with the movement’s new trends, without leaving aside the heavier style.

In this mix of influences are the anthological bands of the genre such as Sisters of Mercy, Lords of the New Church, Xmal Deutchland, Christian Death, Rosetta Stone, Angels of Liberty, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, and the harmony and proximity with the newer bands such as  Nox Novacula, The Toods, Denuit, Sextile, JE T’AIME, Straight Razor, VLURE among others.

Their debut track “Pills” will be released on June 21st and according to bassist Joe Klenner the band “manages to mention these influences in the songs creating our own sound, with a lot of identity”. The group has musicians who have played in many relevant bands in the São Paulo alternative scene. The sound can best be described as a mix of the original gothic sound with metal, post punk, rock’n’roll and other oddities.

Lineup:

  • Johnny Monster – vocals and guitar
  • Juliana Chacon – vocals
  • Joe Klenner – bass and guitars
  • Jeff Molina- samplers & synths
  • Jaques Molina – guitars
