Magnetic Eye Records launch “Back in Black [Redux]” & “Best of AC/DC” Kickstarter

Magnetic Eye Records have reintroduced a Kickstarter campaign by popular demand for the next installment of their acclaimed Redux Series of cover versions honouring legendary rock classics.

Following the tribute for the iconic release BLACK SABBATH “Vol. 4” and bowing before ALICE IN CHAINS and their milestone “Dirt”, the next round of unabashed idol worship by established as well as upcoming acts from the doom and stoner rock scene will be dedicated to the AC/DC heavyweight “Back in Black”. In the already well established tradition of the [Redux] series, this release will be accompanied by a separate companion volume with more cover versions of classics from Australia’s finest under the title “Best of AC/DC”.

The Kickstarter campaign is already underway and will continue until July 25.

The first bands participating in the project celebrating the giants of rock from down under have now been revealed:

Philadelphia psych-doom trio HEAVY TEMPLE have just unleashed their acclaimed debut album “Lupi Amoris” onto the world and are eager to rock this planet even more. And for their first Redux appearance, they’ve pulled in the titanic talents of friend and fellow rocker VALIENT HIMSELF of VALIENT THORR to share the vocal attack with HIGH PRIESTESS NIGHTHAWK. It’s a collaboration that demands attention and truly sets the tone for this release.

Sweden’s doom-monsters DOMKRAFT are also in great shape to take on the Aussie masters after hitting the world hard with their acclaimed third full-length “Seeds” this spring. Expect monolithic and psychedelic twists to be liberally applied.

Seminal punk rockers SUPERSUCKERS have been proclaimed (including by themselves) as the greatest rock and roll band in the world, which makes them the perfect addition to pay homage to the greatest rock and roll band of all time, bringing their legendary swagger and energy to two tracks on the project.

From Los Angeles by way of Brooklyn, EARLY MAN’s high energy, rapid-fire riff-metal has seen them on tour with HIGH ON FIRE and 3 INCHES OF BLOOD among many others. This appearance marks their return to activity after several years’ composing music for Cartoon Network, and they haven’t lost a step.

There simply has to be an Australian contribution, and NWOBHM-laced doom blended with a healthy dose of aggression makes WITCHSKULL the perfect 3-piece to shepherd AC/DC into the heavy rock underground.

Last but not least in this enumeration are SMOKING LIGHTNING from Texas. This new heavy rock outfit featuring Clayton Mills (DIXIE WITCH), Henry Vasquez (SAINT VITUS,) and Kyle Juett (MOTHERSHIP) is making their worldwide debut with a dinosaur-stomping take on AC/DC studded in fuzz-sludge glory.

Jadd Shickler, Magnetic Eye Records’ label director, comments:

With the 40th anniversary of the AC/DC classic Back in Black last year, it was an easy choice to re-imagine this undeniable rock ‘n roll masterpiece from end to end as the latest homage in our acclaimed [Redux] series. In the past, we have presented our [Redux] Kickstarters prior to the start of any recording or planning by any bands. This time, all music has already been recorded, mixed, and mastered. It means that this time the campaign is just a few short months away from you holding these records in your hands. In homage to the all-time classic nature of the ‘Back in Black’ album and AC/DC as a band, we felt it made sense that the limited first pressing be produced on audiophile black vinyl, just like it was 40 years ago. Coloured vinyl will also be available later with delivery probably in early 2022. Yet the very first limited edition to be out at the end of 2021 will be in classic black vinyl. Enjoy!
