Alternative Control

Connecticut-based music blog Alternative Control will be releasing its third compilation album, Volume Doom, on February 22nd, 2019. This new comp reflects a more focused musical spotlight than previous releases Quality Control Vols. 1 & 2, featuring a mix of brand new, up-and-coming, and established bands in the doom, psych, and stoner rock/metal genres.

Band Lineup:

  • 1476 – Salem, MA
  • Dust Prophet – Manchester, NH
  • Eye of Nix – Seattle, WA
  • Gorge – Tariffville, CT
  • Howling Giant – Nashville, TN
  • Low Moments – Norwich, CT
  • Mourn the Light – Norwich, CT
  • Owl Maker – Milford, CT
  • Pinto Graham – New Haven, CT
  • Witching – Philadelphia, CT

Eye of Nix and 1476 tracks are included courtesy of Prophecy Productions. Track titles and more bands TBA in January 2019.

Says Alternative Control editor and Owl Maker bassist Jessie May:

I’m excited to put together a tangible showcase of bands the blog has featured. In recent years, as my own musical tastes have gravitated towards stoner metal and related genres, the blog’s coverage has drifted that way as well. (It’s a labor of love, after all!) I want this comp to introduce listeners to bands they haven’t heard before. One group I’m particularly happy about featuring is Low Moments; this is a brand new band, but its members are all veterans of the Connecticut heavy music scene. Low Moments’ track on Volume Doom will be the band’s debut release!

I also hope that Volume Doom creates connections between music scenes in different geographic areas — and that’s already working. Dust Prophet and Owl Maker are sharing some bills in New England this spring, and Howling Giant helped Mourn the Light find a Tennessee gig on their Embrace the Darkness tour coming up in March! The tide raises all ships…

Volume Doom will be available for streaming and digital download through Bandcamp. All proceeds will go towards Alternative Control’s website maintenance costs.

Skanners

Alpha Omega Management is especially thrilled to announce the signing of Skanners, Italian legendary heavy metal band since 1982 who are back, announcing their new album, entitled Temptation and set to be released in March 2019. More information will be revealed shortly.

Stated the band:

Skanners are very excited to work with Alpha Omega Management, an excellent and professional team. We can’t wait to exalt all over the world our 35 years of heavy metal!

Alpha Omega Management adds:

We’re extremely pleased to welcome Skanners to our roster family, the real pioneers of Italian heavy metal! The guys are ready to blast the stages harder than ever and we’re looking forward to work for their future goals! Stay tuned for next announcements, great things are going to happen!

Matt Mitchell & the Coldhearts

UK’s new classic rock outfit Matt Mitchell & the Coldhearts have released a video teaser for “Black Diamonds”, It’s their first single and due out on January 25, 2019. The song is taken from the self titled solo record which was recorded at the iconic Rockfield Studios, Wales last year.

Matt Mitchell started out singing and writing songs in his late teens learning his craft in several bands early on, he then found himself as the voice of AOR band Pride who released two albums in the mid 2000’s on EMI Toshiba and Point Music.

Furyon was Matt Mitchell‘s next project. Formed out of the demise of Pride a heavier style evolved, with much love and praise from The likes of Classic Rock and Metal Hammer magazines. Furyon had a great run touring UK/Europe and performed at several major festivals including Download, Bloodstock and Poland’s gigantic Woodstock festival. Not long after the release of the second album the band was put on ice so that the band members could spend more time song writing and considering their future.

At this point Matt Mitchell joined Little Angels guitarist Bruce John Dickinson forming the much lighter bluesy sounding Colour of Noise. A good two year run was had with the band. An album was released, followed by lots of touring and yet more major festival slots.

Colour of Noise were to leave things on a high in 2017 and with one door closing another soon opened in the shape of Matt Mitchell‘s solo project with guest players – Matt Mitchell & the Coldhearts.
