Mind your head… Indya’s Natalie comes a cropper on stage

A lot of the bands we cover are small, independent acts. They play small venues (some of them independent as well), or with limited stage space at larger venues as there’s a ton of kit set up for the headliners. Amazingly we very rarely see any mishaps despite a handful of mental individuals cutting some shapes being in such close proximity.

Well, it doesn’t always go so smoothly… Natalie West, who fronts the band Indya (a former Band of the Day), had a bit of an accident the other night at Hotel Pelirocco in Brighton. Nobody’s fault, but smashing your head into a bass guitar can be a bit more serious than you’d think. The video below (scroll to 8 mins 39 sec) shows what looks like a fairly innocuous bump, but Natalie was unable to finish the gig (“I saw stars, felt dizzy and left the stage and passed out”) and was still nauseous the next day.

It’s not just the Dave Grohls of this world falling off huge stages, or the Pete Townshends impaling their own hands. We’re glad to report that she’s fine now, but a quick word to all you bands out there – you’re there to entertain us as musicians, not gladiators. Keep the blood inside, OK?
