Bearded Theory Festival launch “FoodBank Holiday” campaign

The fine folk over at Bearded Theory Festival have announced plans at this years event to collect as much as 5,000 non-perishable goods for local charity Padley Group.

As a note to attendees, the organisers are asking if each festival-goer can bring one non-perishable item with them for a collection at the site’s car parks and entrances. In addition to this, a “donation location” stall will stand during the festival where donations can be made and attendees can get information about the charity and its work.

The Padley Group is a homeless service hub and development centre which feeds around 100 people a day, 7 days a week across their centres. With the arrival-collection, the “donation location” stall and a sweep of un-used leftover items they hope to amount 5,000 non-perishable goods – enough for 400 extra food parcels to feed the most vulnerabe in society.

Co-ordinator of Bearded Theory’s FoodBank Holiday Sally Booth says:
As a veteran of many music festivals I have been shocked at how much food is often left behind, with people choosing to throw it away, rather than carry it home. That then led me to thinking that at Bearded Theory Festival, we could not just collect these leftover tins and donate them to a local foodbank, but do something on a much larger scale! By asking our fabulous festival-goers to also bring just one item each for donation to the Padley Group, we can make meaningful positive impact on the most vulnerable people within the community that hosts our festival each year.

As for the event itself, the two day festival will be held at Catton Park, Derbyshire (home of Bloodstock) on the late bank holiday of this month (26th & 27th May). The bill compiles the likes of Robert Plant and The Sensational Space Shifters, Blossoms, Jimmy Cliff, Sleaford Mods, Jake Bugg, Jesus and Mary Chain and over 150 more acts over 9 stages.

Further to this, there’s also a children’s area for children’s things and a comedy stage that takes over at midnight.

Now that’s how you run a festival!

Tickets and coach transport options are all available from the festival’s official site.
