Well, this one came as a shock. After reports emerged of Tom Petty being found unconscious and in cardiac arrest on Sunday at his Malibu home, he has sadly passed away. The leader of The Heartbreakers was rushed to hospital but upon arrival, no brain activity was found and life support stopped. After much to-ing and fro-ing due to an inaccurate initial report of his death, Petty finally passed away in the early hours of Tuesday morning (UK time).
Having just completed a tour which included headlining Hyde Park at the annual BST event and his relatively young age, it comes as the worst kind of surprise to all. With that in mind, his massive contribution to music should be acknowledged. Indeed, rock music would look very different if it wasn’t for his involvement. He leaves behind a legacy not many can rival. At this time, there has been no statement issued by family or representatives, nor has cause of death.
