Yet another notable musical passing was announced in the early hours of this morning. George Young, a member of the EasyBeats who went on to produce some early AC/DC material. He was the elder brother of band members Malcolm and Angus Young.
Born in Glasgow on 6th November 1946, he emigrated to Australia in his early years. Young’s passing was announced by David Albert, CEO of record company Alberts. His statement reads:
It is with great sadness that Alberts acknowledge the passing of George Young.
A consummate songwriter, trailblazing producer, artist, mentor and extraordinary musician, George was above all else a gentleman who was unfailingly modest, charming, intelligent and loyal, a man with a wonderful sense of humour.
George was a pioneer who, with close friends Harry Vanda and Ted Albert, created a new sound for the Australian music industry, He will be missed.
AC/DC have also released a statement, saying:
As a musician, songwriter, producer, advisor and much, much more, you could not ask for a more dedicated and professional man.
You could not ask for a finer brother. We will always remember him with gratitude and hold him close to our hearts.
Thank you for the music, George, and for helping to create one of the bands that so many people across the world enjoy.
