RIP Daisy Berkowitz, founding member of Marilyn Manson (1968-2017)

Barely hours after news of the passing of Celtic Frost’s Martin Ain, we have heard that another influential musician has passed at a terribly early age.

Berkowitz (born Scott Putesky) created the stage name by splicing together Daisy from Dukes of Hazzard with the surname of serial killer David Berkowitz, the “Son of Sam”. Together with Brian “Marilyn Manson” Warner, they created the concept for one of rock’s most controversial acts in 1989, an act which exploded with the release of “Beautiful People” from their second album Antichrist Superstar.

Berkowitz left the band during the recording of that album, but his talented and creative fingerprints are all over the finished product.

Another act he was associated with was Jack Off Jill, and it was this band that broke the news on facebook earlier. Berkowitz / Putesky died of colon cancer, a disease he was diagnosed with in 2013. He was aged only 49.

Our thoughts are with his friends and family and we ask you to join us in enjoying a sample of his output, “Dope Hat”, from MM’s first album Portrait of an American Family.
