Less than a week ago, the announcement of the cancellation of Ragnard Rock Festival had the effect of a bomb: unexpected and devastating.
It unleashed passions on all sides, the genuine supporters of the scene and the festival, the disappointed festival-goers and the detractors. It basically created quite a mess down here, within the metal community as well as in the representation of culture in France on the whole, which were both already fragile. As some people said, moving aside all the rumors and fake polemics, “J’ai mal à ma culture” (“My culture aches”).
Amongst the first category I mentioned are the volunteers. I can testify they are a strong and reliable team, and I was lucky to see the fruit of a mix of long labour, dedication and craziness. Here is a small extract of what the festival would have look like and more precisely the most important part of it: the bars. Horns, drakkar, arrows but also their own shields fence, the offerings tree and the mighty, awesome Thor’s hammer.
There were also all the glasses, pitchers and posters (sadly I couldn’t get myself the massive billboard sized one), all gone to waste. It shows how close we were from starting the festival.
Let’s hope not everything is lost and as for me, I will wait no matter what.
