Album News: Vintersorg, Nine Shrines, Opposer, Through Fire

There’s no way we can keep you up to date on everything coming out – there’s simply such a staggering amount sent to us each day – but here are a handful of announcements picked at random from today’s toppling pile…

Vintersorg – Till Fjälls del II coming soon

It was a tricky question… How would Swedish duo Vintersorg continue after 2014’s intriguing album Naturbål? Shunning repetition, vocalist and mastermind Andreas “Vintersorg” Hedlund did the unthinkable and composed a sequel to his groundbreaking 1998 album Till Fjälls, which is considered to be one of the most important albums in the genre of black/folk metal!

What to expect from Till Fjälls del II? No scientific lyrical concept, no progressive trickery, but a heartfelt return to snow-capped mountains, pure nature-inspired mysticism, Nordic folklore and real black metal with a captivating epic streak. Vintersorg share a vision of equally harsh and melodic soundscapes that melt the raging extremes of the late 90s with the focus of 2016.

The worldwide album release is set for June 30 via Napalm Records.

Nine Shrines – new single out now, debut EP soon

Ohio Metalcore quartet Nine Shrines have released their brand new single “Parasite”, taken from their upcoming debut EP Misery, out via Mascot Records on 21 April. You can listen to “Parasite” over on YouTube.

Based between Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio – Nine Shrines dig deep to explore the nuances of contemporary metal, navigating through metalcore, alt rock and stadium sized choruses. Formed by former Attack Attack! drummer Andrew Wetzel and Life On Repeat guitarist Andrew Baylis early in 2014, they are a band woven into the fabric of the explosive Ohio scene.

“Parasite” is based on personal experiences and is an ode to those who deliberately create problems, explains the bands vocalist Chris Parketney:

Parasite is about worthless people. The type that latch onto you and drain you of your money, your happiness, and your self worth. Once they are gone, you are left empty. We all have dealt with these people in one way or another. This is our Fuck You to those people!

Opposer unleash Darkest Path

Here’s a genuine band from 1992 that are still at it and upholding the standards. The riffing is great and so is the intent. If you’re into death metal with a healthy offering of thrash metal, this is for you. You can stream the album in its entirety on Bandcamp.

Opposer from Spain have been around since 1992 and even 25 years later, they’ve come out with a very solid album that encompasses the classic death metal sound along with the thrash metal influences. It’s not easy to write an album like this. It’s extremely riffy, redolent of bands like Bolt Thrower, Obituary, Hypocrisy, Malevolent Creation and early Sepultura and the surprising part is how they’re able to merge it all together, even imbibing melodic touches of Amorphis and Paradise Lose, and serve it with a lethal dose of thrash.

Through Fire release debut album Breathe today

Through Fire, the hard rock band from Omaha, Nebraska, unveil new single “Breathe” (below), ahead of the release of debut studio album of the same name, which gets its UK release on April 7th via Sumerian Records.

Comprised of guitarist Justin McCain, vocalist Grant Kendrick, bassist Jesse Saint, and drummer Patrick Mussack, Through Fire have been quickly solidifying a permanent spot amongst the industry’s elite acts, through tours with Escape The Fate, Nonpoint, appearance at mega-festival Chicago Open Air and syncs on NBC Sports that’s seen their music heard at major sporting events.

The band was named the Accelerator Breakout Artist of 2016 by Sirius Octane and was nominated for best new rock act for the 2017 RadioContraband Awards. The band played over 175 shows in 2016 and shows no signs of slowing down, with 2017 set to be a breakout year.
