Album News: Dethonator, Face of Oblivion, Burial in the Sky, Ruinous

Quick round-up from the last day or so…

dethonator-dethonatorDethonator release their eponymously titled album on October 15th. The band have blended together elements of old school, contemporary and power metal with soaring melodies, huge guitars and vocals that switch easily between smooth and growl, to produce a storming album that’s a must for all fans of hard rock & metal.

Originally forged in the East Midlands of England, now established in London, Dethonator are an exciting, four-piece Heavy Metal band. Starting out as young teenagers in the summer of 2002, Dethonator have honed their craft over a decade and a half of gigs and tours, demos and self releases, line-up and even name changes to become what they are today.

Face of Oblivion

face-of-oblivion-cataclysmic-desolationMinnesota tech-death brutes Face of Oblivion release sophomore album Cataclysmic Desolation on November 11 through Comatose Music. A promo video for new song “Debridement” is available to listen to below.

Now fronted by veteran vocalist Jesse Watson (Iincinerate), Face of Oblivion are primed and ready to unleash their cacophonous soundtrack for the inevitable extinction that awaits mankind. Frenzied speed coupled with unparalleled technique come together to shape this massive overkill of head crushing barbarity. No one is safe, the end haunts us all, prepare for desolation…

Burial in the Sky

burial-in-the-sky-persistence-of-thoughtAs of late the state of Pennsylvania has been churning out a lot of quality new death metal such as Rivers Of Nihil, Black Crown Initiate, and Alustrium. Now you can add another name to that list, Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania natives Burial In The Sky.

The band came to life in 2013 when guitarists (and multi-instrumentalists) William Okronglis and James Tomedi decided to form an ambitious new project after already spending years playing music with each other prior to Burial In The Sky. Joining them on Persistence Of Thought is none other than world class drummer extraordinaire Samus Paulicelli (Decrepit Birth, ex-Abigail Wiliams) whose expert skills perfectly complements the stunning atmospheric technical death metal that James and William write.

Fans of Rivers Of Nihil and Fallujah would be wise to keep an eye on the band, although Burial In The Sky is far from being a derivative copy of either. Burial In The Sky – Persistence Of Thought is set for release on Friday, November 4th. The first single from the album will be released on Wednesday, September 28th.

Dark Descent Records will again raise the bar this fall with the release of Graves of Ceaseless Death, the debut from death lords Ruinous. What can you really expect when you get together former or current members of Goreaphobia, Incantation, Funebrarum or Disma but death metal of the utmost quality?

Formed right after Alex Bouks (guitar), Matt Medeiros (guitar & vocals) and Shawn Eldridge (drums) all stepped out of their duties with Funebrarum to form their own band, Ruinous perfectly embodies everything those guys have been up until now while forging a sound on its own. While Medeiros brings on the table the brutal, ominous vibe that made Funebrarum’s The Sleep of Morbid Dreams such an amazing experience, Bouks’ more classic metal background adds more layers.

Dark Descent Records will release Graves of Ceaseless Death on November 11. To placate the masses, the label has posted a stream of “Transfixed on the Gate”…
