The Kut reveal new EP (and tour dates and single)

The Kut - Rock Paper Scissors“Without music there is never any balance,” opines Princess Maha, lead vocalist and guitarist of returning London grungers, The Kut.“We’ve put a lot of work into our band, made the requisite sacrifices and accepted the financial pressures of being an independent act, but the pride we feel for our music and the creative milestones we achieve makes it all worthwhile.”

The Kut’s latest milestone is new E.P, Rock Paper Scissors and it sees the trio – completed by drummer Violet Cannibal and bassist/vocalist Alison Wood – taking a more stripped back, visceral approach toward their Riot Grrrl tainted alt-rock. Twinkling guitars, accompanied by harsh growls and contrastingly sweet melodies.

“[2014 E.P] Make Up was a transition record; we vented a lot of frustration on that, but it was overwhelming rather than empowering,” recalls Maha; “By the time it came to recording Rock Paper Scissors, our frustrations were transforming into something more constructive. The new music is very angry, but that’s sometimes the process that’s needed.”

Set for release on April 13th, 2015 via Criminal Records, Rock Paper Scissors is preceded by single, “Alekhine’s Gun”, a track which lyrically explores themes of facing adversity, as Maha explains: “We’ve all been there; sometimes life has far more to throw at you than you are prepared for or willing to take on, but it’s just coming back from that and realising that you don’t have to harden up to the world to survive. It’s coming from the point of near break down and saying – stay strong, don’t let them change you and be true to yourself and you can still get through it. I wanted it to be that track that would empower someone to survive as who they are.”

  1. I Want You Maniac
  2. Alekhine’s Gun
  3. I Don’t Need Therapy
