New Band of the Day: Morgue Orgy

Can I first of all say that the main reason this band jumped the queue to get featured today is because Lisa Coverdale at Hold Tight! PR writes the best blurbs and promo pieces for bands. I would go as far as to say I believe she’s ever so slightly unhinged, perhaps in a marginally psychotic way but that I think she’s harmless.

Probably.

What makes things tricky is wondering how I can top her stuff. Or if I could get away with just ripping it off. And then I think “Of course I can rip it off. It would be a shame for the public at large to miss out on this hastily-crayon-ed mentalness. And it saves me a shit load of time.”

So thanks, Lisa – partly for letting me know how good Morgue Orgy are, and secondly for doing my work for me. Take it away…

Five reasons why a Morgue Orgy is for life and not just for Christmas

  1. They love dogs, seriously, their press photo inside the kit even has a lovely wee doggy in it. Like puppies, if you adopt a Morgue Orgy, chances are you have it for life and not just for Christmas.
  2. The songs are about witches, and sea monsters, marijuana and…..Last of the Summer Wine. You know….important stuff. Drunk from Fukpig also co-wrote the lyrics on the track Castle Freak.
  3. The band are poised to give away the entire album FOR FREE on Christmas Day, because they can. Because they believe in the baby Jesus. Probably because they’re stoned. It’ll have an official retail release on 13th January but why wait, grab it on Christmas Day FREE, and run naked through the streets yelling SUCK IT SCROOGE. Frosty bollocks!
  4. The older you get, the shitter Santa is…usually. Socks and pants again this year? Yeah cheers, NAH – give the gift of Morgue Orgy. Your nan will thank you.
  5. The album sounds like a 4 day old brussel sprout fart smells. Obnoxious, hairy around the edges and with teeth. Seriously – if you aren’t pulling this face all the way through it, your ears are wrong.

Forged in the molten bowels of the very birthplace of Metal, Birmingham’s Morgue Orgy are the UK metal scene’s last hope for melodic death metal, with the release of their album The Last Man on Earth.

The band is releasing the album as a free gift on Christmas Day 2013, before officially pushing it to retail on January 13, 2014. Whilst other people sing “Joy to the World” and gather around a tree to celebrate Christmas, Morgue Orgy will be rejoicing in the spat out lyrics for their track “4 Days” (“You slags will die, you’ll burn in hell”), whilst their album festers like a pus-filled Christmas pudding in the ears of their legions of online fans.

When an album opens with a song commemorating interspecies breeding between man and alien, you know you’re in for a ride. Such is the case with Morgue Orgy’s first full-length release, The Last Man on Earth. Spat out of the deepest darkest depths of metal’s spiritual home, The Last Man on Earth is an album set to take the Birmingham-based band into spaces more rotten, extreme, and experimental than ever before.

Sweating and forging away at the album since their last release in 2010, it is no mere random collection of songs. As keyboard player Paul Carter comments: “We want the listener to have an experience when listening to the full album, to feel the highs and lows, the intensity and the dynamics. We don’t want people to pull 2 songs off the album onto their playlist, we want people to listen to the whole album from start-to-finish.”

Despite this dedicated labour of love, Morgue Orgy are at heart a band set on fun, a mindset which leads to songs about zombie hordes, scarecrow serial killers, and nightmarish circus troupes, as well as live shows alongside Anaal Nathrakh, Evile and The Rotted. Keep those ears out too for track seven (“Castle Freak”), with lyrics co-written by Drunk of Fukpig. Compared to the rest of the album it’s fairly light-hearted stuff – merely imprisonment, arson, and matricide.

In a truly festive spirit, Morgue Orgy are giving the album away for free ahead of its official retail date of January 13 next year. To support the release the band are to play an end of year promotional show in Leamington, on Friday 29 November, as well as following up with a video for lead track “4 Days”.
