Our regular run-down of as many of the upcoming Bloodstock bands as we can get to talk to us! By Virtue Fall play the New Blood stage on the Friday…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We’re all from Norwich, in East Anglia!
How long have you been playing together as a band?
By Virtue Fall has been going since 2018 but three of us were in a band before then and we’ve all known each other through different local bands for years and had all gigged together loads of times before too, that’s Norfolk for you!
Where does the name of the band come from?
By Virtue Fall is actually taken a Shakespeare quote; “Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall”. We loved the message it conveyed and felt that it fit well with the imagery and *vomits* “brand” of the band, through our artwork and visuals.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We’re a unique blend of classic, big metalcore riffs and melodies but with a real modern hardcore & metalcore twist!
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Big riffs, soaring guitar melodies and crushing breakdowns! Lots of opportunities for “audience participation”, big pits and maybe a wall-of-death thrown in there too to get the blood pumping at the start of the weekend!
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
Our bassist Gamble has played Bloodstock twice before & loved it! He’s our lucky charm… It will be the first time for some of us so we can’t wait to see if it lives up to the massive hype, it sounds like we’re in for a cracker of a weekend!
Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We won our heats, semi-final and final of the East Anglia Metal to the Masses competition.

Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?
Heavy metal bucket-list item complete! Headbanging destiny awaits at Bloodstock.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
We’ve got a great mix of songs planned, a mix of old and new, but without giving anything away the set lands HARD and as we know we’re on towards beginning of Friday, we can’t wait to bring some early heat to proceedings!
Stage times haven’t been announced yet, so which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
Green Lung on Friday! Those guys are incredible and absolutely deserve to be on the Main Stage. Can’t wait to see them crush it.
What are you working on at the moment?
We’re releasing the first single, “Abandon Hope” from our upcoming 7-track EP on 1st August [pre-order here! – Mosh] with the whole EP dropping later this year. We’ve got some other cool content that will be released alongside the single & EP and we’re shooting a new music video over summer…! Plenty of cool stuff to keep an eye out for on our socials.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Our good friend and M2TM organiser, Rory, was peer-pressured into downing a shoey at each heat, semi & final of the competition this year – that was after being in the pit for most of the evening! Fair play to you, Rory..!
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
Given we’re playing earlier in the day on Friday, we’ll have to be sensible and avoid the beers until after our set; that Peach Monster though is chef’s kiss.
