Our regular run-down of as many of the upcoming Bloodstock bands as we can get to talk to us! Absolence play the New Blood stage on the Friday…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Merseyside.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Absolence has been around since 2005, but line up changes and reincarnations aside. The Absolence as we know it now has been working the scene since 2019.
Where does the name of the band come from?
It’s totally made up.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We love all types of metal, we are influenced mainly y metal core but are never afraid to bring different elements of the sub genre to make a song sound awesome. 100% metal, 0 gimmicks.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
We are a pretty funny and play off the crowd, we take the music seriously but probably not ourselves that much. If you want to head bang, listen to some sweet catchy chorus vocals and nasty lows come and give us a try.
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
Some of us have, I can’t speak for them. But me (Mike), no. I’ve been to Download a bunch of times when younger. I’ve been told once you go, you always go and it’s “like Download but condensed without the bullshit”. So I cannot wait to experience it.
Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We won the Burnley region. Big thanks for having us, we loved the experience. Sanctuary is such an awesome venue.

Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?
Holy fuck balls!!!
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Tried and tested, what got us to Bloodstock will be what we play. The usual flow of our set is kick you in the face for the first 3 songs Drug $lut, Silence in Shadows and Shattered Reflection, floor you into a comma with our bangers Blue Skies and Kindred and then finish everyone off with Deceiver and the most epic brutal outro we can produce.
Stage times haven’t been announced yet, so which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
Everyone we can, we want to learn from other bands and the best in the biz, you only get better by having great inspiration and motivation around you.
What are you working on at the moment?
Recording more songs, Networking and writing the next songs that will tell our story.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Some of the wildest things I’ve ever seen is when the promotor fills a venue and actually promotes the show!! Lol. All jokes aside, the underground metal community is such a special one and to keep it going we need more people wanting to take a chance on new music and people who want to play it.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
Mike (Monster), Hateriff (Cup of tea), Chris and Will (Beer) and Tom is partial to a glass of water!!! Haha. We concentrate on the show and make sure we give our best. Ask us what we want after the show if your buying!
