Our regular run-down of as many of the upcoming Bloodstock bands as we can get to talk to us! Crowgod play the New Blood stage on the Sunday…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Brighton, baby!
How long have you been playing together as a band?
A year and eight months. Or if we wanna be annoying, like the parent of a toddler, we can say twenty months!
Where does the name of the band come from?
The old bassist, David, came up with it in the pub. Combo of Crowbar and Eyehategod. Sludge rules, man. Big up, David – we love you, dude!
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
The groove, for sure. The infusion of progressive influences in sludge and doom means we’ve got some slapping bangers that are interesting enough you won’t get bored. We switch it up enough in and between songs that there’s a lot to appreciate.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
We all bring our own thing to the table. We just feel the music hard and that passion escapes us in various ways. We’re not really a band that stands still. A little bit of an unhinged attitude can make for a good time, ya know? We have fun. And somehow, the individuality we all bring, also makes more to it.
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
Mel’s been once but can’t really remember it! Their nickname for that year is Spliffstock.
Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
Kent massive!
Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?
Fuck, yeah, boy! Not too shabby, eh?
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Groovy progressive sludge with a mix of rompers, fast bangers, complex riffs, a psychy doom number… all presented on a platter doused with ethereal and aggressive vocals.
Stage times haven’t been announced yet, so which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
Carcass, Septic Flesh, Soen, Cultura Tres, Goblinsmoker.
What are you working on at the moment?
We’re currently mixing our debut full-length, due out in November. Other than that we’re hoping to shoot a music video soon and write some new material over the next few months!
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Crowd-surfing a portaloo at Gutalax during Brutal Assault in the Czech Republic a few years ago.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
Two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers… Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls.
