We’ve been lucky enough to be asked to sponsor the first ever Hella Rock Festival so we thought in the run-up to the big day, we best get to know the bands we’ll be seeing over the course of the day. So let’s hear from the openers who’ll be playing their hometown – Luna Kiss!
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Coventry!
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Over ten years. We started playing together when we were 17, we’re over 30 now. We’ve met up for band practice two nights a week that whole time. We’re lucky enough to have our own studio/rehearsal space.
Where does the name of the band come from?
It was so long ago we don’t really know anymore! We just thought it sounded cool. A Dutch fan suggested we change it to Moon Snog!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?
A recent review called us “wonky-alt-rock-pop”. I think that about sums it up. We’re very much a guitar based band, we chuck in a few tune signatures and chromatic “wrong notes” here and there. But we try to keep the vocal melodies catchy and lyrics relatable.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you rather than hanging at the bar or grabbing some merch?
When we headline, we have some screens with customs visuals for each song. Sometimes they display the lyrics of the chorus which helps people to sing along if you’re in a new town. We also wear matching suits which gives us a memorable look on stage.
People often don’t remember the band name first time you play a new town, but they do remember the suits and the visuals, when we come back that’s often something that is brought up by the audience after the show. We’re also sick musicians…
How does it feel to be performing at the first Hella Rock Festival?
Feels great to open for it and we’re sure to kick it off with a bang!
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Rip-roaring riffs, solos and melodies with little to no down time in between!

What are you working on at the moment?
We’ve got a song “IVY” out on 22nd March. And some more songs in the works – hoping to release another one this year.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
When we’re on tour we start getting silly and messing with each other on stage. I once sat on the drummer’s lap half way through a song and he had to carry on. We both messed it up but it was funny. A drunk fan once pissed himself in the middle of one of Wil’s guitar solos.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
It’s gotta be Yorkshire tea all the way. Rock and roll!
