Road to Hella Rock Festival 2024: Tattoo Molly

We’ve been lucky enough to be asked to sponsor the first ever Hella Rock Festival so we thought in the run-up to the big day, we best get to know the bands we’ll be seeing over the course of the day. And it’s the turn of the organiser’s band – Tattoo Molly!

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Coventry and Wigan.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

As Tattoo Molly we’ve been together since 2021. However, Sam and James have been playing in bands with each other for nearly ten years, and James and Adam around seven years. This is Dan (“our bass man”)’s first ever band, you wouldn’t think it as he’s took to it like a duck to water.

Where does the name of the band come from?

As mentioned before we’ve all been in bands with each other over the years and there seemed to be a common theme of female names like (Shotgun Suzie and Slack Alice) so the Molly element of the name is a tip of the hat to bands that have been. We think overall it just sounded cool! Tattoo Molly…. has a ring to it, no?

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Unique is a very subjective term to use when talking about music, especially on a local or smaller scene outside of the music business. We’re not one to pigeonhole ourselves – we’re just a rock and roll band whose only goal is to create the best experience for anyone will to watch us.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you rather than hanging at the bar or grabbing some merch?

As mentioned before, we try to create the best experience for everyone watching and we like to think we turn heads of those not watch and grab their attention. With all our shows, when possible, we use pyro on stage and if we’re lucky enough to play a venue big enough we have backdrops with the band’s name in 5ft letters. Our aim is to take as much from the bigger bands that play arenas and stadiums and do it at a smaller scale.

How does it feel to be performing at the first Hella Rock Festival?

We’re looking forward to it, we’re very fortunate that our guitarist James is the founder of Hella Rock Festival. So, we’ve fell on our feet being able to share a stage with some of the best bands in the UK.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Balls to the wall!

Which other band on the bill are you most looking forward to catching?

This is a very hard question as they’re all amazing. King Kraken are going to one to watch for sure, The Black Shucks are another awesome band that we think are going to get popular very quickly.

What are you working on at the moment?

So, we recently released our debut album Power last November which has been received very well. It was all recorded by us, so this year we’ve decided to release as many singles as we can with a bunch of music videos to boot. More music, more content and more gigs.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Now you’re asking… I don’t think we’ve done anything that wild or crazy, one time at a show James’ monitors caught fire and he carried it out while it was smoking and in flames and threw in the beer garden.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

We tend not to get to bladdered before going on stage but if you’re coming to one of our shows and want to buy us a drink Sam will drinks Bud, James drinks Kopparbergs, Adam likes a bitter/ale, Dan will drink the tears of unicorns with orange juice (or a Kopparberg)
