Road to Hella Rock Festival 2024: Bang Bang Firecracker

We’ve been lucky enough to be asked to sponsor the first ever Hella Rock Festival so we thought in the run-up to the big day, we best get to know the bands we’ll be seeing over the course of the day. So let’s hear from Bang Bang Firecracker!

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We’re from sunny Stoke On Trent.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Bang Bang Firecracker started out as an inspired solo project back in 2018. Guitarist Kieron ‘K’ Berry put the project together after being on tour with Chris Holmes (W.A.S.P founder and guitarist) in 2017. Kieron comments; “I grew up in awe of this guy and his fellow Hell raisers. He was intense as hell and talking about all the new music he was creating… I started writing again very soon after – the songs flowed, and I’ll forever be in debt to Chris Holmes for kicking my ass! We’re now working on our third album – and we’re in our sixth year!

Where does the name of the band come from?

The name comes from A Pound Bakery Sandwich! I was out for lunch with Shaun Lowe, our producer. I saw a “Bang Bang Firecracker Chicken” sandwich and thrust it at Shaun, stating that I must steal the name! Shaun laughed and agreed, so the name stuck.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We are a 3 piece heavy metal band who take inspiration from far and wide. We take inspiration from bands like Motörhead, The Almighty and early Iron Maiden although we like to add in more modern sounding elements too. I don’t think there are many bands out there blending up the styles as we do, so we definitely have our original elements that make us stand out.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you rather than hanging at the bar or grabbing some merch?

Our live game means the world to us! We like to command the stage and grab people’s attention with our power, energy and musicality. Our stage sound packs a considerable punch and we are often described by reviewers as “relentless”, in that respect, I think we are a very hard band to not pay attention to!

How does it feel to be performing at the first Hella Rock Festival?

We were stoked to have been asked to perform at the very first Hella Rock Festival. We are extremely proud to be a part of this amazing line up and share the stage with all of these super-talented bands! This is also our first gig in Coventry, so we welcome the opportunity to perform in front of a new crowd!

What sort of setlist can we expect?

We have some brand new tracks to showcase this year. these are tracks that are in their demo stage for our third studio album. We’ll certainly be dropping a couple of those into the set. We are also re-visiting some of the early Slaughterhouse tracks and we will play a selection of tracks from our Evil Trilogy. We also love to play a timely tribute to Motörhead, where depending on the length of the set we could play several of their classic tracks!

Which other band on the bill are you most looking forward to catching?

It has to be our brothers in Tattoo Molly! They are undoubtedly one of our favourite bands to listen to and to gig with! We’re also really looking forward to seeing New Generation Superstars! We love their sound style!

What are you working on at the moment?

We are about to release a brand new single and video called “Hail Waco”. This is a song about the massacre back in 1993. It’s a powerful anthem that should make a serious impact!

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

We’re pretty chilled before we go on stage tbh. K always takes a small bottle of JD up there with him that is for the Motörhead toast that we do just before we pay homage to our heroes. The after show is always a different affair! There is a tradition where we line up a cold pint, a JD and a Fireball Shot each. Then depending on the venue, this can often repeat into the early hours!
