Road To Bloodstock 2022 – Pelugion

It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here are Pelugion who play the Sophie stage on the Sunday.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are all from Coventry – born and raised!

How long have you been playing together as a band?

We have been playing together now for nearly 10 years. Next year will mark ten years together and we have big things planned to mark the occasion…

Where does the name of the band come from?

The band name comes from a few Greek words that we chopped up and pieced together. Don’t ask what the words were though because it was almost 10 years ago and we can’t remember them!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Our music is a unique blend of old and new. We play big riffs in the style of bands such as Black Sabbath, Metallica, Soundgarden etc, but with a modern approach to groove, musicality and hooks. We have some real down-tempo doomy songs but we also have songs that are more thrash inspired, we like to think that we cater for everyone!

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

A Pelugion live show consists of big riffs, soaring vocals, a barrage of drums and plenty of headbanging! We give our all on stage and we expect the same from the audience, so you better be ready to throw up your horns and bang your heads when you see Pelugion live!

Have you played Bloodstock before? If so, when?

We had the pleasure of playing the New Blood stage back in 2018 and we have been dying to come back ever since, so we’re really looking forward to heading back on stage for 2022.

How/when did you find out that you’d be playing the SOPHIE stage?

We found out back in February when we received an email from Simon Hall and we’ve been waiting impatiently ever since!

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Expect a no holds barred set from us with many a new song or two being thrown into our setlist. We know how lucky we are to have this opportunity and we plan on showcasing everything that we have to offer as a band. Enormous riffs, big choruses, all the groove and plenty of energy.

Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

We can’t wait to catch Desert Storm, who are playing right after us on The Sophie Stage so there is no chance of us missing them. Cattle Decapitation are another band that I’d like to catch and also Lamb of God (obviously).

What are you working on at the moment?

We have been in the studio in the past few weeks and we are planning on releasing some new music very soon…

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

We once played a Christmas show in costume. Sweeney, our singer, was dressed as Jesus and myself and John were dressed up as angels wearing wings and haloes!

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Usually a Red Bull or a water. We try to keep it as clean as possible and save the alcohol for after we have played, to keep our performance at its best. After we’ve played, that’s when the fun begins!
