Road To Bloodstock 2022 – Cage Fight

It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here are Cage Fight who play the Sophie stage on the Saturday.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

The band is based in London, although Rachel originates from the South of France, Jon grew up in Essex but moved to London in the 90’s, James is South London born and bred and Nick is from Hitchin.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

We have been a band since Feb 2021.

Where does the name of the band come from?

A friend suggested the name as it summed up our metaphorical stance on what we were writing about and the aggression of the music.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Cage Fight is visceral, honest direct and a furious crossover of HC and thrash with a good dollop of groove thrown in.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

If people want to experience a furious blast of energy and hear riffs that set a pit off then they need to check us out.

Have you played Bloodstock before? If so, when?

Our first time and are excited for this opportunity to play.

How/when did you find out that you’d be playing the SOPHIE stage?

We found out last year and were so excited to have people have faith in us, particularly as we are such a new band.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Brutal, Hard, fast and groovy.

Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

We can’t wait to see Malevolence and Jinjer.

What are you working on at the moment?

We are playing some festivals and looking to be out on the road again later in the year and maybe making it to the mainland, however Brexit has complicated this.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Wildest thing I have seen at one of our gigs was when we played at Blondies for our album release show and there was a cue of people lining up to continuously stage dive off the bar.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Depends on who you ask in the band… could be Pepsi Max, could be beer, could be a lemonade… After the show is a different question entirely!
