Road To Bloodstock 2022 – Apollyon

It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here is Apollyon who play the New Blood stage on the Sunday.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

In a nutshell we all came from in between our mothers’ legs, but we all hail from Ellesmere Port – the hive of the North West froth and scum. It’s not all bad here, there are some appreciative landmarks here such as the Boat Museum and the area’s longest stretch of fine dining kebab huts. There are worse places in the world.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

As a band we have played together for about 13 years now. We have sampled a few guitarists over the years, but nothing ever really worked. We are a tight threesome – good friends with similar interests. It is probable that we will stay as a 3-piece – less hassle.

Where does the name of the band come from?

Gareth came up with the name. We had been talking about a name for a while but couldn’t come up with anything decent. One night Gaz chinned about 8 Fosters and, whilst browsing his well-kept copy of the Bible, he stumbled across “The Apollyon” (The Destroyer). Quite a fitting name for our aggressive music style.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Our music stands out from other bands out there. Considering we are a three piece we are as loud as any band. We have a great balance of heavy riffs, technical leads and powerful drumming with aggressive lyrics anyone can relate to.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Full of energy, crowd participation and professionalism. You’re going to see a proper band with us, a band who know their stuff. You won’t catch us playing boring riffs or looking tired, the new tunes we have are going to hit you hard. You’re going to be stunned and will probably need a rest and a good meal afterwards just to talk about what you have just witnessed.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

We all love Bloodstock; we go every year. So many great memories and great bands over the years.

Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?

We won the Wrexham region. We are not Welsh though.

Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?

Relieved, elated, ecstatic, horny….don’t need to go on.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

30 minutes of sheer blood, sweat, jizz and passion.

Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?

Friday will be the big day for us. We are excited to see Testament and Exodus. Thankfully we will play on Sunday so all good.

What are you working on at the moment?

We are currently recording some new material, its just in the mixing stage at the moment. Hopefully will be just in time to go live on Spotify before Bloodstock.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

I saw a YouTube video of a guy nailing some chick on stage, does that count? Gaz got his tits out once after the crowd was taunting him a few years ago. He’s slimmed down a lot now though, but he might get his balls out if he’s asked nicely.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

2 x scoops of Huel (cookies and cream), 1 x 500ml can of Reign (Razzle berry) and lets fucking go…
