It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here are Syncolima who play the Jagermeister stage on the Friday.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Stoff and Gazz live in Mansfield, Josh is from Derby.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Coming up to around 18 months now.
Where does the name of the band come from?
Band names are hard! We had a few trials with other names, but we wanted something unique, we did some looking into stuff and found It’s an ancient exotic fruit. The Syncolima Fruit. It gives the person who eats it the power of rhythm, virility, and hyper intelligence. Ancient mystics used to eat them and then perform a ritual called the Syncolima Fruit Ritual which brought people together in a celebration of Music, Love, and the Musk of Powerful Humans…
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Big riffs, catchy choruses, fat bass lines, pounding drums. Stoner / Grunge with a hint of ethereal prog.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Smashing out riffs left right and centre. Fast paced, hot, sweaty, and catchy!
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
We’ve all been to Bloodstock many times, it’s a second home for us, we love it.

When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?
The morning after our M2TM Final, we got an unexpected email.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
We’ll be jamming through our debut album, we’d like to get some new stuff to chuck in too, but it’d most likely be our bangers from the 1st album
Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
We’re playing the Jager stage Friday, we really wanna catch Gwar, it’d be cool to see Thuum on the Sophie stage and FyreSky on the New Blood stage.
What are you working on at the moment?
We are currently working on our second album, for which we have studio time booked at the end of September.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
We’re pretty well behaved, but Gazz out drummer once saw a woman pushing a kid in a pram, lean over and puke on the kid . . . maybe it was some kind of bird in human disguise, needless to say that was weird rather than wild.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
Josh prefers a nice cold cider
Stoff and Gazz like a good craft beer but trying to be good so we’ve switched to gin and lemonade!
