Road To Bloodstock 2022 – Nømadus

It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here are Nømadus who play the New Blood Stage on the Friday.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Belfast, Northern Ireland.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

We started in 2016 and did our first show in 2019 after getting a solid line-up to gig. It wasn’t until 2021 that we found our current line-up and feel that we are starting fresh.

Where does the name of the band come from?

We didn’t really focus too much on a meaning, more that the name Nomad being pretty metal. The fact it’s a Sepultura song helped too!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

It’s a bit of thrash, groove, progressive elements mixed with a lot of melody, a bit of death metal in a few riffs. We try to approach each song differently from one another as well so we’re not stuck to one specific genre

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

We try to play as tight as we can and the energy in the riffs and set flow, there’s never really a dull moment where there’s a lot of filler space. There’s always interesting parts in every song that keeps the crowd’s attention.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

One of us has as an attendee, but it’s the first time ever we play or go together to a big metal festival like Bloodstock, we couldn’t be more stoked about it!

Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?

We played M2TM in Belfast, got second place in the final and Simon Hall announced that we could potentially play the Jägermeister stage, so to be called to play the New Blood one alongside all the winners is really awesome.

Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?

Unbelievably happy, determined and proud.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Fast tempos, groovy and always heavy.

Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?

We wanna make sure we see as much of the New Blood bands as possible, as well as the big acts which we are not too worried because we will play early in the day. But to name a few bands we hope to see that don’t clash with the New Blood: Testament, Exodus, Eyehategod, Avatar, Cattle Decapitation, Orbit Culture, Lamb of God…

What are you working on at the moment?

At the moment we are focusing on putting out our first album, which we’re looking to release it in a few months this year. From then we hope to get a few gigs promoting it.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Once saw a grindcore band having porn playing in the background, that was pretty wild!

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Water and a beer for the nerves!
