It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here are Lore of the Woodman who play the Jagermeister stage on the Sunday.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We’re from Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Cam (bass) and Martin (guitar) created our debut album Leave Everything Aside Now as a lockdown project in 2020. We later found Salvo (drums) to bring it to life in a live setting. We’ve been rehearsing together as a band since 2021 and we started gigging this year.
Where does the name of the band come from?
The name comes from Cam and Martin’s gaming handles: Cam as ‘Lore’ and Martin as ‘The Woodman’, and as simple as that we had something that fit our vibe just right.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Our sound is a merging of twinkling ethereal guitar lines, interwoven with driving bass melodies, with intricate rhythm and experimental time signatures. Above all we love building atmospheric energy in our songs.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Our live show is one to see to catch your breath from the mosh pits and get immersed in. You’ll be pulled through frisson-inducing crescendos, into huge expansive choruses, down into deep atmospheric lowlights – on a progressive journey diffused with danceable groove and unusual hooks.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
We’re new to Bloodstock but can’t wait to see what it has in store!
When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?
During the winners announcement of the Milton Keynes Metal2TheMasses final. Verminthrone won overall (go check those guys out on the New Blood stage on Friday btw, incredible band) but the judges had an epiphany: we’d be the perfect hangover cure on the Sunday afternoon, to be administered from the jagermeister stage. We couldn’t be more thrilled and honoured to take up that mantle.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
We’ll be playing tracks from our debut album in a continuous immersive set punctuated by soundscape.
Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
Has to be Soen.
What are you working on at the moment?
At the minute we’re busy nailing our live show and getting back into the writing process – watch this space for album #2 in the not too distant future.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Honestly, so far we’ve been pretty well behaved on stage – you never know, that might change at Bloodstock.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
Quite fittingly Jager does the job nicely, must be something about those herbs and spices.
